Introduction: Smoking is a growing concern in health problem. In some researches defense mechanism shows some similarities with Emotion regulation because of the similarities, and there is a prove about relation between emotion regulation and smoking. The current study examined: smoking behavior by defense mechanisms.Methods: This study is a casual-comparative type .and included smokers and none smokers from both sexes.Results: There is a significant difference in regression and suppression in level of 0.01.and there is significant difference in introjections, projection and fantasy in level of 0.05.Conclusion: Regarding Defense mechanism Questionnaire (DMQ-77) smokers reported more defense mechanisms such as regression, suppression, introjections, projection and fantasy
